artiFACT Postcard Postcard

Postcard

Estimated value: $18–$38

This is an early undivided-back era postcard (circa 1905), published by the Souvenir Post Card Co. of New York and Berlin, from a copyright image dated 1895 by A. Loeffler. The card depicts the Boathouse on the Lake in Central Park, a popular leisure destination. It was mailed from New York City and received in Millburn, New Jersey, in September 1905. The message — written sideways on the picture side as was common before the divided-back format allowed messages on the reverse — is a brief, warm social note thanking the recipient for something sent, and commenting on the improving weather.
