Tips for the Best Results

Three small details decide most of a Pokémon card's value. Make sure the camera can see them.

Show the bottom corners. The set symbol, rarity symbol and the printed number / set total live there. They are what turn "a Charizard" into "Base Set 4/102 Holo".
Catch the foil. Tilt a holo or reverse holo a few degrees under the light so the pattern is visible — it is the difference between the common and the chase card.
Include the left edge of the art box. That is where the 1st Edition stamp sits and where Shadowless is decided (no drop shadow to the right of the art).
Upload the back if you can. The back's colour and print quality are the fastest way to spot a fake.

How does it tell what my Pokémon card is worth?

Can it tell if my card is fake?

It flags the clearest tell a photo can show: a printed card number higher than the set total, which proxies and fakes often get wrong. It is not an authentication — a card with no flag can still be a good fake, so have anything valuable checked in hand or graded before you buy or sell.

Are 1st Edition and Shadowless Base Set cards worth more?

Usually by a wide margin. The 1999 Base Set had three print runs: 1st Edition (stamped), Shadowless (no drop shadow on the art box, no stamp) and Unlimited. 1st Edition and Shadowless holos are the ones collectors chase; the same Charizard can differ by ten times or more across the three.

Is the 2016 or 2017 reprint of a Base Set card worth the same?

No. Reprints from Evolutions, Celebrations and 151 reuse the classic art but carry their own set symbol and number. The checker reads the set symbol so a modern reprint is priced as a modern reprint, not as a 1999 original.
